Kalah is the version of Mancala you will likely play if you purchased a Mancala board in a store or online. This guide will provide an overview of the rules for each of these Mancala versions, starting with the most popular commercial version: Kalah. Other well-known versions include Oware, Congkak, and Togus Kumalak. The most popular version of the game is known as two-rank Mancala, or Kalah. Whether you have never played or you’re an expert, the number of variations and different rules are fascinating. Each level may also require the techniques of any easier level.This post provides an overview of how to play Mancala, a family of strategy board games played around the world for centuries. Here are the solving techniques that may be required for each difficulty level. When off, you may still enter pencil marks manually. Mark Illogical - When on, will show any digit which violates the one rule (two or more of the same digit in the same row, column, or block) in red.Īuto Pencil Marks - When on, automatically turns pencil marks on and off based on the current board position. When off, pencil marks are made as large as possible. Small Pencil Marks - When on, pencil marks are always displayed as a 3x3 grid of small digits. All of the cells that contain a pencil mark for the current digit are highlighted in pink. Highlight - When on, all of the cells that contain the current digit are highlighted in yellow. Time Clock - When on, displays the minutes and seconds elapsed at the top of the board. Play Sounds - When on, any time you enter or remove a digit or pencil mark on the board, there will be a click sound. If you take a call, or exit Enjoy Sudoku, or lock the Palm Pre, the time clock also pauses. The time clock only runs when the board is displayed. Pause - backing up to the Menu while playing pauses the time clock. Using solve will add a substantial amount of time to the game clock. Any digits you have not yet entered will be shown as pencil marks. Solve - tap the Hint button, and then tap the Solve button to show the solution to the current puzzle. At any time in the future, you can use Play Game and then Saved Game to return to the most recently saved board position. Save - You can save the current board position by backing up to the Menu, selecting Game in Progress, and then selecting Save Game. Undo - tapping the Undo button undoes the most recent change you made to the board. More time is added for hints about more difficult techniques. Using hints adds extra time to the play clock. When a hint is displayed, pressing More will give you additional details, pressing Done will return to play. Hint - tapping the Hint button will give you a hint about how to proceed from the current board position. ![]() You can tap the pencil button again to turn off pencil mark mode. Then tap on a cell to place a pencil mark for the selected digit in that cell, or remove the pencil mark if there is one already.
